About L.J.C.C.

The London Junior Chess Championships originated in 1924 as the London Boys Championship. Titles are awarded for seven age groups, Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, Under 18 and Under 21. To play in the Under 8, Under 10 or Under 12 Finals you must first qualify, either via a qualifying tournament or by grade. Qualification is not required for the older age groups. Ages are calculated as at midnight on 31st August 2007.

The Under 10, Under 12 and Under 14 events are divided into two sections: Major and Minor. The Championships are decided in the Major sections.

In the Under 10 and Under 12, players pre-qualified by grade and those who have scored 4.5 points or more in a qualifying tournament play in the Major. They may not play in the Minor. Those who have not qualified for the Major and who score 3.5 or 4 points in a qualifying tournament play in the Minor. A player enters the Minor and subsequently qualifies for the Major must transfer to the Major. Please inform the Congress Director, Marc Shaw, if this happens.

The Under 14 Major is open to all players under 14 at midnight on 31st August 2007. The Under 14 Minor is open only to players whose grade is below 111.
